Water damage can occur for a long list of reasons, which makes every restoration job a little bit different. Here’s a few of the most common problems we see in the areas in and around Decatur:

Toilets are a big source of water damage problems. Even though there isn’t much water in the actual bowl, the problem comes from the fact that the toilet is connected to a sewer line full of water. If the problem isn’t addresses quickly, a broken toilet can cause a lot of damage.

Other household equipment like air conditioning units, washing machines, dishwashers, garbage disposals, sump pumps, showers and just about anything that uses water can cause massive water damage over a short period of time.

And of course, natural disasters like tornadoes and hurricanes. Unfortunately, Alabama gets the best of both of these natural disasters.

That’s what we’re here for.

How The Water Damage Restoration Process Works In 5 Steps

Finding water damage is just the beginning. Here’s a breakdown of what you can expect when you work with us.

Step One: Call The Decatur Water Damage Restoration Experts As Soon As You See Water Damage

The minute you see water damage give us a call. We’re always ready to jump into action because water damage doesn’t wait- so why should you?

While we know you want to get the process started and get our team on way, we did need to collect a bit of information before we start the work. By having the following information ready, our team can start getting you back to normal faster.:

  • Any insurance information you have
  • The best and most reliable way to reach you for future contact
  • Everything you know about the water damage (when did it start, where is it coming from, is it still flowing, etc).
  • Is electricity available and safe to use in the area?

Step Two: Our Experts Conduct A Complete Evaluation

Our team will arrive as fast as possible and complete our initial evaluation and inspection. For the first inspection we’re focusing on the highest priority information:

  • We need to quickly determine the source of the water damage and if it is still active, shut it down.
  • Along with determining the source of the water, we will classify the type of damage based on the type of water. There are three main categories, each one worse than the one before:
    • The first category is clean water.
    • The second category is gray water or water from things like washing machines, dishwashers, toilets and similar household appliances.
    • The third category is often called black water and is the worst of the three. This category includes water that has been contaminated with dangerous chemicals and bacteria.
  • Each of these categories carry a different approach and by identity the extent of damage and the type of water involved our team can determine the difficulty and scope of the job.

Step Three: Water Extraction, Removal, Drying and Dehumidification

Once our team has a good idea of what they’re dealing with they can start the water removal and extraction process followed by the dehumidification and moisture removal process. The job requires quite a few pieces of special equipment to make it work. Here’s a few of what our Decatur experts us:

  • Commercial grade submersible pumps and high powered, truck mounted wet/dry vacuums that allow us to rapidly remove a massive amount of water.
  • Hygrometers which report on exactly how much moisture and humidity is still present in your home or business. This combined with infrared cameras help us find every bit of water and moisture that remains in your property.
  • Portable extraction units that allow for greater mobility than our much larger truck mounted vacuums.
  • Powerful industrial grade air movers that force airflow all over your home and business which speeds up the drying process. Shorter dry time also means less opportunity for mildew and mold to take root.
  • Dehumidifiers which quickly dry out and remove moisture from your property.

Our first goal is to remove as much water as possible using our heavy duty vacuums and pumps. This equipment allows us to remove hundreds of gallons of water a day. Equally important is the next step of removing stuck in moisture using drying and dehumidification techniques.

Even if your property appears to be dry, it often isn’t. Most common construction materials (like wood and drywall) actually absorb and hide moisture. Our team’s special equipment allows to check for and find this hidden moisture and remove it before it causes significant structural damage.

Step Four: Time For A Major Cleanup

Once the water has been extracted and the stuck in moisture has been removed our team can work on clean up. However, this isn’t just any regular 409 type clean up job because water damage doesn’t leave a normal mess.

First is the smell. Water damage has a very distinct and unmistakable odor. Again, normal odor removing products are unlikely to solve the problem. Our Decatur water damage experts utilize special fogging techniques and equipment which disperse powerful odor neutralizer across your property.

Even more important is to neutralize the risk for bacteria and microbial growth which is common after water damage. Our restoration service includes cleanup using antimicrobial and antibacterial agents to eliminate this risk.

Step Five: Restoration

The final step. The water damage has been extracted and dried out. Now it’s time to make your property look as amazing as it did before the damage occured.

Every job is different and the details of our restoration work will depend on what was damaged.

Some of the most common work includes:

  • Drywall repair and replacement.
  • Carpet replacement
  • Hardwood floor repair and replacement
  • Cabinetry repair and replacement
